SANTA ANA, Calif., February 6, 2002-- Orange County’s Area Agency on Aging has
officially changed its name to Office on Aging. The new name change reflects a
change in the structure and rebuilding of the agency to better identify with
the older adult population of Orange County. The agency was referred to as
triple A and mistaken for the automobile agency. “The new name is very clear
and allows this agency to communicate its programs and services more
effectively to the community we serve, said Pam Mokler, executive director of
the Office on Aging.
The Office on Aging currently provides a web of resources to Orange County’s
400,000 seniors. The agency recently launched a new 800 line to provide older
adults and caregivers with information and referrals to much needed programs
and services countywide. To reach the Information and Assistance Referral Line
call 1-800-510-2020. Callers are assisted by phone specialists, supervised by a
gerontologist who helps identify and directly connect callers with the most
sought-after services such as nutrition, transportation, in-home services,
adult day care, case management, caregiver support, financial and many more.
To respond to the growing demands of the agency and to increase the quality of
its services, additional staff have been hired to support the strategic goals
of the agency.
According to a Chapman University research study, seniors are the fastest
growing age group in Orange County and will account for nearly a quarter of the
population by 2020.
The Office on Aging’s mission is to increase awareness of and access to
community programs and services that will enable older adults and persons with
disabilities to remain vital and independent for as long as possible. . For
