| SANTA ANA, Calif., May 6, 2003--
As the County faces severe State budget cuts, the value of volunteers becomes
truly priceless. More than 24,000 volunteers and 1,084,000 hours of service were
valued at $24 million in avoided costs for County government in 2002. To celebrate
these achievements, the Board of Supervisors honored these volunteers at the seventh
annual countywide volunteer recognition ceremony. One of this year's honorees
is Dick White, a resident of Huntington Beach. During the past several years,
White has been a strong and visible advocate for senior services and work with
the Office on Aging. Under White's leadership, he has strengthened services for
senior citizens in Orange County and has become an authentic and viable voice
on senior issues. White has co-chaired various collaborative training sessions
for SCAC; goal setting and more importantly, advocacy. White has also encouraged
and developed greater collaboration between SCAC and the Office on Aging on legislative
and program planning issues. The Office on Aging, which provides resources
to nearly 400,000 seniors throughout the County, is dedicated to improving the
lives of older adults living in Orange County. For more information on senior
services and programs, call (800) 510-2020 or visit our website at www.officeonagingocgov.com.
