(Santa Ana, CA) The Orange County Office
on Aging presented its first Excellence in Senior
Transportation Award to Anna Castro, Transportation
Coordinator for the St. Judes North Orange
County Senior Connections Transportation Program.
The Excellence in Senior Transportation award
is designed to recognize those individuals in
the private, non-profit, or government sectors
that have demonstrated dedication to the goal
of providing transportation to older adults in
Orange County by showing dedication above and
beyond the responsibilities of the program or
organization to which they belong to assist those
seniors in need.
The award recipient, Anna Castro, demonstrated
her dedication and willingness to go above and
beyond what was expected of her to help a senior
in desperate need of transportation. Just before
five oclock in the evening on March 26th,
the Office on Agings Information & Assistance
section received a call from a social worker seeking
transportation for a senior in jeopardy of losing
her slot in a skilled nursing facility if she
did not arrive there that evening. Anna Castro
was contacted immediately and rose to the challenge.
Rather than calling it a day after a full days
work, Anna went to the seniors home and
arranged for the ride even though it was after
normal operating hours. She assisted the senior
in packing her belongings and waited with her
until she received her safe and secure ride which
was required in order to obtain her future housing.
The dedication to senior transportation and extra
care exhibited by Anna Castro is truly deserving
of the Office on Agings first Excellence
in Senior Transportation Award.
