WHO:
Cal Optima, the Social Services Agency, the Dayle McIntosh Center and
the Office on Aging, on behalf of the Interagency Committee on Aging.
WHAT:
Three forums for consumers and stakeholders interested in California’s
Olmstead Planning Process and to evaluate ways to improve the array of
community living services for persons with disabilities.
WHY:
As a result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision Olmstead v. Zimring,
states across the nation are engaged in evaluating the programs and services
they provide to enable their citizens with disabilities to live in their
respective communities rather than in institutions. The Olmstead decision
clarified that states are required to provide services and treatment in the
least restrictive setting appropriate to their needs for people with
disabilities.
